Pre-Natal Listening
Pre-Natal Listening
Many pregnant mothers observe their babies responses to sounds, voices and music. The aural nervous system is developed and begins fully functioning during the second trimester of pregnancy. Around week 25 your baby can recognise voices and responds to different kinds of music. From birth.com.au: “From observing unborn babies with ultrasound it has been shown they may respond to relaxing and classical type music by turning towards it and curl up and away from very loud rock, rap and pop type music.”
Our Pre-natal Listening program has been designed to give mothers a simple way to develop a loving, musical connection with their unborn babies that can have enormous benefits during and after birth. Held over 2-3 sessions, this program can be done privately or a group setting, and is a unique gift for a mother-to-be!

Music Classes for Newborns, Babies, and Toddlers
At The Music Garden, our classes for newborns, babies, and toddlers offer a gentle and joyful way to explore sound, rhythm, and connection. Inspired by the Suzuki philosophy, we believe children learn best from their earliest experiences, just like they do with language, by listening, repeating, and sharing loving moments.
The early years are important for brain development, and music helps support your child’s thinking, emotions, and social skills. Our classes help parents and children bond in a calm, caring space where little ones can safely explore and enjoy music.
What to Expect in Class:
- Traditional songs and lullabies
- Pitch and rhythm activities
- Sensory play and sound exploration
- Parent and child interaction
- Exposure to quality acoustic music
- Social skills: listening, sharing and waiting
Each session is guided by caring educators who understand the importance of patience, encouragement, and connection during early development.
Our inclusive classes welcome all families and abilities, creating a supportive community where every child is valued.
"My 2 year old daughter started her Music Garden classes when she was 3 months old. A lot of mums from mothers group or playgroup were surprised to see how good her speech ability was and how many rhymes she could sing. We also invited my daughter's young friends to join the class. Through the music journey, we are not only connecting with the music but also with our friends. Not to mention all the fun and the special moments starting from Lucia's first version of ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’...” Lulu, Music Garden Parent
Enjoying the benefits of a mixed age group, babies and toddlers attend each week with a parent, grandparent or carer and grow in a musical environment that is calm, respectful, encouraging and free from the pressure to perform. Sensitive to different developmental stages, we take the time to wait for each child to be ready and particpate in their own way as we understand that much learning occurs through observation.
Classes are carefully structured to maximise engagement, focus and enjoyment. Children love repetition, so we keep our classes very similar week to week, alternating two sets of songs so children develop a sense of understanding and safety from the regular structure of class. Our much-loved program recordings “Music For Little Ones” and companion album “Lullabies for Little Ones” include beautiful recordings of all the songs and rhymes that we use in class for you to play at home and create a quality musical home environment. It is the only ‘equipment’ you need in order to participate in this program. The simple activities we do in class make it easy for you to re-create these learning experiences at home, which in turn develops your child's ability and enjoyment. Designed as a pre-instrumental program, our 0-3 program is the perfect preparation for more formal music lessons, as well as a wonderfully complete experience in itself. Be warned, most parents find that after a couple of years in this program, their child is usually asking “When can I learn the violin/piano/flute/cello/guitar?”
Classes last for 45-60 minutes. We invite you to come for a Trial Class to experience The Music Garden for yourselves!

Music Classes for Pre-Schoolers
At The Music Garden, our music classes for preschoolers provide a joyful and enriching introduction to music in a nurturing, engaging environment. Guided by the Suzuki music education philosophy, children learn naturally through listening, play, and imitation—helping them build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love for music from an early age.
Our classes are thoughtfully designed to support early childhood development through fun and interactive activities. At this stage, children absorb new skills quickly, and our program nurtures their natural curiosity while building strong musical and developmental foundations.
Children strengthen essential skills such as listening, coordination, rhythm, and social interaction, all while expressing themselves in a safe, inclusive, and encouraging space. Each child is supported to learn at their own pace, guided by experienced and caring educators.
What to Expect in Class:
- Singing and vocal development
- Rhythm reading activities
- Instrument exploration
- Listening and imitation exercises
- Social group participation and interaction
- Solfege singing and hand signs
We are committed to inclusion and warmly welcome children of all abilities and learning styles.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to take part in the learning journey to help reinforce skills at home.
Our Pre-school 3-5 program is the perfect way for a 3 year old to begin their journey with The Music Garden and for 'graduates' from our Babies and Toddlers 0-3 yr classes to continue developing their musical and social skills. Using songs the the wonderful "Four Little Engines" album by the Music Cottage (as well as the occasional favourites from our earlier program and elsewhere), this program introduces several key music concepts such as solfege singing with hand signs, rhythm reading and notation, group and solo singing, while promoting greater independence in preparation for school and instrument learning.
We have lots of beautiful acoustic instruments for our graduates to discover as well as new ways of working with ones they have come to know and love in our Babies and Toddlers 0-3 yr classes. This class is a magical way to nurture and see your child's outrageous potential unfold week by week!
